Crossing the Krkonoše – that's what you want!

DAY 1.

START in Malá Úpa, 1,050 m a.s.l.

Malá Úpa is a picturesque village that is definitely worth visiting. From Malá Úpa, you can set off in any direction and you'll always enjoy yourself. The meadows are dotted with beautiful traditional cottages and the village has a romantic atmosphere. But that's another story. Now let's focus on the "Krkonoše Crossing." You can choose Malá Úpa as your starting point or destination. To cross the peaks of the Krkonoše Mountains, you'll start with the highest one – Sněžka. You can choose from several trails. One of the most beautiful, offering an irresistibly photogenic panorama with Sněžka, is via Tabule – a slightly longer but all the more beautiful trail. (Marked in blue, known as Hřebenovka)

From Tabule, it is only a short distance to the Jelenka cottage, where you can refresh yourself with delicious Trautenberk beer brewed right in Malá Úpa.

As a proper hiker, you surely have a snack in your backpack, but Krkonoše cuisine is not to be dismissed. Another possible refreshment stop is on Sněžka, but do not expect a grand culinary experience.

It is only a short distance from the Jelenka cottage to Sněžka. You can still choose between several trails. Both lead uphill, so it doesn't really matter which one you choose. The green trail is longer.

Sněžka, 1,603 m above sea level

In summer and on some weekends, the highest mountain in the Czech Republic can resemble Wenceslas Square crowded with people. You know, everyone wants to be there... Despite the large crowds of tourists, you will certainly enjoy beautiful views of Obří důl and the Polish side, where the Krkonoše Mountains are completely different. Don't forget to take the obligatory photo at the summit and then quickly move on.

Direction Luční bouda 1,410 m above sea level

It's a little further away, but it's worth it. The restaurant is large and there is certainly no shortage of space. At Luční bouda, you can taste their own beer, excellent homemade pastries – rolls and delicious cakes, or traditional Krkonoše cuisine. This will definitely come in handy if you stop for refreshments for the first time.

Don't forget to buy a roll to take with you.  With your bellies full, you can move on.

Head towards Špindlerovka and the irresistible Wielki and Maly Staw

This is where the Krkonoše Mountains start, with barely any tourists around. Most people head to Sněžka and back down. That's why you'll get to see the Krkonoše Mountains in all their beauty and peace in this direction. From Luční bouda, follow the yellow trail and then the red trail to Polední kameny.

When you plan your next trip to the Krkonoše Mountains, be sure to check out the Polish side of the Krkonoše Mountains. It also offers its own beauty and uniqueness. Despite being part of the Krkonoše Mountains, do not expect the same mountains.

From Polední kameny, follow the red "Czech-Polish Friendship" trail to Špindlerovka.

Now it's time to find a place to crash.

There are tons of options. Some days, you'll find a place right away, and other days, you'll have to look around a bit. But you'll definitely find something.

You can also book a spot at Špindlerova bouda, Erlebachova bouda, or the Šišák military recreation center. It just depends on how comfy you need to be.DEN 2.

DAY 2.

Once you have recharged your batteries, you can hit the road.

The Dívčí kameny (Girls' Rocks), Mužské kameny (Men's Rocks) and a beautiful view of Sněžné jámy (Snow Pits) await you.

The second day will be short on refreshments, so it is better to stock up on some snacks at your accommodation.

Harrachov is now almost within reach. Continue along the red "Hřebenovka" trail until you reach a crossroads, where you turn towards Vosecká bouda and continue on to the Mumlava Waterfalls. You can end the entire trip at the Ski Museum in Harrachov.

At the end of the crossing, you can count the kilometers, which will be about 40 km.

Important to know:

 - The entire crossing takes place in the KRNAP nature reserve, where overnight stays, camping, and fire-making are not permitted. We greatly appreciate every tourist who follows the rules.
- You can almost always find accommodation halfway along the trail. If there is no room at the top, you will definitely find it in Špindlerův Mlýn. In the morning, you can reach the peaks by regular bus service.

- The second half of the crossing has almost no refreshments along the way. The only option is Labská bouda, but you have to take a detour. However, Labská bouda is under reconstruction, so it is important to check the opening hours.
